Radio For Skeletons
Radio for Skeletons make music without words that still tells stories. Four musicians with very different roots – jazz, art rock, krautrock, post-rock and a good dose of metal – meet in pieces of five to ten minutes that take their time and then won’t let go. Each one is a journey: it sets out on a wide, calm sea, drifts through hypnotic currents and at some point runs into heavy weather before it finds its shore. “The New Sea” is an album about the sea – about layers of water that never mix, about doldrums and spindrift, about light in the deep and the whirlpool that swallows everything.
The band formed around guitarist and producer Michael Pietzsch – the driving force who initiates, records and produces the pieces; they are written together, all four members share the writing credits. From the Stuttgart studio scene came Carlo Wagner on keyboards – a music teacher who grew up in a household of professional musicians – and Timm Schreiner on drums, who drums with Good Men Gone Bad, recorded an album with the Farmer Boys and has played for Tarja Turunen (formerly Nightwish) both in the studio and on stage. The band played its first concert on 3 December 2023 at Stuttgart’s jazz club Kiste, with Klaus Graf, lead alto saxophonist of the SWR Big Band, as a guest.
In October 2025 the line-up was completed by bassist Yaron Stavi from the London jazz scene – member of Gilad Atzmon’s Orient House Ensemble and Richard Galliano’s New Musette Quartet, with work for Robert Wyatt, Phil Manzanera and Nigel Kennedy, and heard on David Gilmour’s “Rattle That Lock”.
- Stur und Dumm – Ludwigsburg artist collective: electronic beats with acoustic and oriental instruments, including “Nomad” (2019). Michael Pietzsch was its guitarist, composer and producer and co-designed the Silent Lab Studios, before leaving to pursue his own project.
- “Screaming Silence” (2020) – A campaign raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention, with Michael Pietzsch as its driving force.
Timm Schreiner
Drummer with Good Men Gone Bad; an album with the Farmer Boys, studio and live drummer for Tarja Turunen (formerly Nightwish).
Carlo Wagner
